How do you know you are having an allergic reaction?

- Sneezing
- Blocked nose
- Runny nose
- Watery eyes
- Red eyes
- Itching eyes
- Wheezing
- Coughing
- Red/ itching rash
- Worsening of asthma symptoms
- Worsening of eczema symptoms
In severe reactions called anaphylaxis or anaphylactic shock can occur. When this happens it is classified as a medical emergency. It is important to get the patient to a hospital as soon as possible.
Symptoms of anaphylactic shock include:
- Feeling lightheaded or faint
- Collapse and unconsciousness
- Swelling of the mouth, throat or tongue, which can lead to breathing and swallowing difficulties
- Swelling of the eyes, lips, hands and feet
- Itching skin or a raised, red skin rash
- Wheezing
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea and vomiting
