Childproofing guide

I think my grandmother would think I’m mad for writing this blog but childproofing your  home has become more and more important over the years.

In the olden days there were a lot less hazards in the home. Where as today we have double the plugs, double the cables, double the medicine and double the trouble. Keeping your child safe in your home is not as difficult or expensive as you might think. In the InfoGraphic below you can get a good idea of what is needed.

The most hazardous areas in your home are the following:

  1. The kitchen – due to sharp utensils, hot surfaces and chemicals for cleaning
  2. The staircase – children up to the age of 5 have difficulty when it comes to balance and may trip and fall easily
  3. The garage – small children should not be allowed in the garage on their own as they might play hide and seek under a car or in tool cabinets.
  4. The basement – Basements usually contain lots of dust and mold. This can be harmful to your child.
  5. The bathroom – floors and surfaces in the bathroom may be wet and slippery. Edges in the bathroom may also be sharp and can a small slip have dire consequences

What will you do to childproof your home?
