[Kids Recipe] Oats & Strawberry Jam Bars

This delicious recipe is easy to make and works great as a lunch box treat.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1 cup Rolled oats
  • ½ cup Butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup Light brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp Baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp Salt
  • ¾ cup Strawberry jam
  • Cooking Spray

Utensils:

  • Oven (You’ll need help from an adult)
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Square (20cm x 20cm) pan coated with cooking spray
  • Large spoon
  • Knife (you’ll need help from your an adult)
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Prepare your pan by spraying it with cooking spray (follow instructions on label) and set pan aside.
  3. In the large mixing bowl add your flour, rolled oats, softened butter, light brown sugar, baking powder and salt. Combine well.
  4. Remove about 2 cups of the dough and set the rest aside. Take the 2 measured cups of dough and gently press it into your pan. Make sure to cover the whole bottom of the pan. You can either use your hands or a spoon to level the dough.
  5. Then add the strawberry jam on top of your pressed dough and spread evenly with a spoon, make sure to cover the whole surface.
  6. Top with the remainder of the dough and cover all the strawberry jam. Remember to be gentle, do not press too hard on the dough or the jam will be uneven.
  7. Bake in the oven for about 25 minutes.
  8. Remove the pan from the oven and set aside to cool for about 15 minutes.
  9. After about 15 minutes you can cut your bars into the desired shapes.
  10. Serve and enjoy!
